15 Things to Do in Barcelona this September

There are so many things to do in Barcelona this September, it can be hard to keep track! Here’s a list of 15 to help out, but there are plenty more things going on around you. Check out the Sharify app for more great ideas!

1. Open Doors Barcelona

Where: Different buildings around Barcelona
What: Museums and Catalan institutional buildings are opening their doors in celebration of Catalan National Day. From 10:00-15:00 explore the National Art Museum of Catalunya (MNAC), 10:00-14:30 the Catalan Archeological Museum, 10:00-22:00 the Born Cultural Centre, and 10:00-20:00 Güell Palace. If you want a peek into some important political buildings, check out el Palau de la Generalitat and el Parlament de Catalunya between 10:00 and 19:00. Read more here.

2. Poblenou Festival

Where: Poblenou neighbourhood
What: Throughout the summer, Barcelona’s neighbourhoods have been celebrating with street parties. Now it’s Poblenou’s turn. Check out the different shows, DJs, live music, fireworks, correfoc (fire run) and other fun activities. Read more here.

3. Horta Festival

Where: Horta neighbourhood
What: While Poblenou is celebrating, Barcelona’s mountainside suburb of Horta will be doing the same. Sounds like the perfect time to explore this lesser-known area. Read more here.

4. All Those Food Market

Where: Teatre Nacional de Catalunya 
What: This cool artisan market features some of the city’s best local businesses. If you’re a foodie, into good coffee, natural wine, or natural cosmetics, this event is for you. All the same, if you just want to spend the afternoon and evening in a hipster haven sampling yummy treats and people watching, you’ll have a great time! Read more here.

5. Brunch in the Park

Where: Parc de la Trinitat Vella & Plaça Major de Nou Barris
What: Electronic music. Dancing. Outdoors. Sunshine. Sound like the perfect combination? Then you’ve got 3 more chances to check out this year’s Brunch in the Park. Lots of local and international DJs including a Disclosure set on the 28th. These events tend to sell out! Read more here.

6. La Mercè

Where: Throughout Barcelona
What: Say goodbye to summer with Barcelona’s biggest street festival, La Mercè. There will be a ton of things to do but some highlights include: the correfoc (fire run), castellers (human towers), gigantes (a parade of giant figures), the projection show in Jaume square, along with a lot concerts, street performers and parties. Read more here.

7. Born Street Food Mercè Market

Where: Pla de Palau
What: Open up your food horizons at this weekend-long food festival. Feast on artisan cheeses, delicious meats, freshly-caught fish, slow-roasted pork, mouth-watering tacos and so on. This food festival highlights the best chefs, restaurateurs and shop owners of the Born district. Read more here.

8. SWAB Barcelona Contemporary Art Fair

Where: Fira de Barcelona
What: The idea behind this art fair is to break away from the elitism that is often associated with contemporary art. It’s an opportunity to discover innovative local and international artists from all disciplines by exploring works from 75 galleries that will be on display. Read more here.

9. Mecal Air Open-Air Cinema

Where: Jardines Elisava
What: There’s something special about watching a movie outdoors. Every Saturday after sunset, you can enjoy film shorts behind the Barcelona Design Museum. For the hungry and thirsty there will also be a bar from 20:00 onwards. Read more here.

10. Erasmus Welcome Party

11. Open Workshops Poblenou

What: Poblenou is a neighbourhood full of creative people and spaces. Over the weekend these spaces are being opened up to the public. This is a unique opportunity to see the cool projects being created inside! Hangar, NauArt, Espai Subirachs, Kind Of Cyan, Quadrat 9, 137º Ceramic Art Studio, and La Escocesa are amongst the 24 open spaces. Read more here.

12. Futuroa Sarao Drag show

Where: Sala Apolo
What: A drag show that questions gender and its outdated boundaries while celebrating all things queer; it’s a party, a moment of love between glitter, bodies and euphoria. Read more here.

13. New Art 2019: Mediums

Where:
ÀMBIT Art Gallery
What: This collective exhibition showcases the works of 5 young artists: Anna Llimós Vidal, Anna Tilche, Blanca Miró Skoudy, Clara Cortés García, Sophie Aguilera Lester. The title refers both to the different mediums the artists use – photography and video, drawing, ceramics, metal and fabric – and also to the role of the artist as a communicator. Read more here.

15. Panteresports 2019

Where: Different beaches and sports complexes, check schedule
What: Barcelona’s LGBT sports club is hosting its 13th international multi-sport competition, Panteresports. The weekend will be full of basketball, volleyball, football, swimming, paddle and beach volleyball tournaments. Everyone is welcome! Read more here.
