This weekend the most eagerly awaited meeting with Catalan architecture of the year returns. The 48H Open House in Barcelona celebrates its ninth anniversary and opens the doors of often inaccessible buildings in Barcelona. This year’s objective above all, is to learn about architecture. It was created in London in 1992 with the aim of bringing architecture to life in a didactic way.
In fact, the doors of more than 200 emblematic buildings in Barcelona, will be open to the public on 24 and 25 October. Among the various spaces that can be explored are:
Joan Miró Fundation
The architect Josep Lluís Sert leaves us this rationalist museum. At the Joan Miró Foundation we can see the qualities of Mediterranean architecture. We can see it for instance in the patios, the lighting, the roofs, etc. It also has a dynamic exterior due to its forms and proportions.
Arc de Triomf
How many times have you passed underneath the Arc de Triomf in Barcelona and dreamed of being able to see it from the inside? Now is your chance!
During the weekend from 10.00 to 19.00 you will be able to enjoy unbeatable views of the city of Barcelona. You can do it from the top of the emblematic monument.
The Escola Massana – Art and Design Centre is located in the historic case of Barcelona. On Saturday from 10.00 to 19.00 it opens its doors to the lovers of architecture. The characteristic building responds to the idea of a bright and open interior space, therefore, it has a facade which avoids the frontality and transmits dynamism.
For all those automotive fanatics, Casa Seat opens its doors to the public. It will present its characteristic building located at the confluence of Paseo de Gracia and Avenida Diagonal in Barcelona.
It will consist of a guided tour. During the tour, you will be able to enjoy a tour of a building that represents technology, innovation, art and urban trends.
This year the event has 21 new buildings. For instance, the fire station in Poble-Sec. The Catalan Civil Protection Territorial Plan (PROCICAT) has reviewd the security measures. The aim is to guarantee the well-being of visitors and workers.
Not only will there be visits, but the 48H Open House 2020 has also organised the Open Photo. This is a competition in which imagination, architecture and photography are the bases of the game.
