Everything and leave behind a very difficult year, January is presented as an uncertain month for events. However, here we bring you a list of plans to make this January 2021 in Barcelona (susceptible to change due to Covid-19).
1. New Year – January 1st
Enjoy the first day of the year in Barcelona. Everything and that on January 1 no event is known so far, will not be a reason to stay at home. Thousands of restaurants will open their doors and agendas for family meals in the new year. Because it is a holiday, stores (except for a few) will be closed. However, you will be able to walk around the city and still see its Christmas charms.
2. The Three Wise Men
This year and due to the coronavirus, instead of the traditional Cavalcade, their majesties will arrive by boat to Barcelona. They will be installed in the Forum to guarantee all the necessary security measures. The delivery of letters will be with previous reservation to avoid agglomerations. All children will be able to see their arrival at the port, as it will be broadcast live on the public televisions of Catalonia.
3. Baixa to La Rambla
This year, the Barcelona City Council presents the “Baixa a la Rambla” campaign. Its objective is to promote more than 50 cultural and gastronomic activities for all ages. These activities will take place from December 10th to 23rd and from January 7th to 21st in La Rambla and its surroundings such as Espai Rambla, Plaza Reial, Plaza de Catalunya and La Boquería market, among others.
4. Winter Sales
We bid farewell to their majesties the kings and kick off the January sales. These will also be advanced (as was the Black Friday). They start on January 3rd and last until March 31st. The discounts will be up to 50% on many brands.
5. Voll-Damm Barcelona Jazz Festival
Due to the delicate situation we were in last October 2020 in Barcelona, many concerts of the Voll-damm Barcelona Jazz Festival had to be postponed. This January 14th it will take place at the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, the first concert postponed by the organization. Don’t miss it.
6. Fiesta Mayor de Sant Antoni – 3 tombs
The festival of els Tres Tombs in Barcelona, is held on the occasion of the feast in honour of St. Anthony Abbot, patron saint of domestic animals. Its main activity is a pass of beasts -horses, donkeys-, rides or carriages, which make a circuit through the center of the city. Don’t miss it this January 17, 2021, in Barcelona.
7. Christmas at the Port
The Port of Barcelona adds another year to the celebration of Christmas in the city. The 2nd edition of ‘Nadal al Port’, which is held from December 2nd to January 6th at the Moll de la Fusta, has been adapted to the restrictions by focusing on a spectacular lighting by land and water. This event is susceptible to changes by the measures by the Covid-19.
8. La Pedrera Night Experience
Hurry up and buy your ticket to live a magical night in La Pedrera. This January 2021 in Barcelona you can enjoy a guided tour of Casa Milà (colloquially known as La Pedrera) and see how it changes at nightfall. Its lights will make you fall in love. You have until March 4th to live the experience.
9. Art and Myth. The Gods of the Prado
This exhibition shows us how artists like Rubens and Ribera were inspired by classical mythology to create their paintings. Made up of a selection of works that are part of the collections of the Museo Nacional del Prado, this is a diachronic exhibition. The sculptures, paintings and medals will follow a chronology. Enjoy an afternoon full of history at the Caixaforum in Barcelona until March 14th, 2021.
10. Orfeó Català Christmas Concert at Plaça del Rei
One of the most beautiful traditions of Christmas in Barcelona and that we love to repeat is the concert in the Plaça del Rei of the Orfeó Català. This is a completely free concert, organized by the Barcelona City Council. As expected, safety and hygiene measures will be guaranteed at this event.
